
Seven Jewell biology students received recognition for their work on independent research projects in November 2011. They submitted Tri-Beta research grants to the national office and were awarded funding to conduct their research after favorable review from biology faculty at other institutions.

- Cassi Johnson and Chris Koehn, Advisor: Dr. Lori Wetmore: “Investigation of the role of AKT and JNK pathways in induced autophagic cell death in human glioma cell lines”
- Michael McClanahan and Logan Pettz, Advisor: Dr. Tara Allen: “Detection and analysis of fatty acid translocase (CD36) in intracellular pools of cultured A7r5 vascular smooth muscle cells”
