The David Nelson Duke Undergraduate Colloquium involves students from all academic disciplines presenting their scholarly works to faculty, staff and the community at large.

The Colloquium concept increases involvement of undergraduates in research, which William Jewell College believes to be a hallmark of an excellent liberal arts college. It is designed to acquaint undergraduates with the process and academic rigors of presenting research, creative projects, or performances in a scholarly manner. Additionally, the Colloquium stimulates interaction between students and faculty and allows students to showcase their academic achievements.

Applications for presentations and posters, including an abstract, are submitted electronically to the supporting academic department or program coordinator. Each department or program coordinator then submits three ranked proposals to the Undergraduate Colloquium Committee, chaired by Liz Kessler.

Each department and/or sponsoring faculty member is responsible for preparing students to present their work, including listening to the student presentation in advance of the Colloquium. A student may have no more than two sponsoring faculty members.

About Dr. Duke
The Colloquium is named for Dr. David Nelson Duke (1950- 2000), who joined William Jewell’s religion faculty in 1980. Over his 20-year career at Jewell, Duke proved himself as theologian, scholar, teacher and social advocate. His articles and books, community activism, collegiality and overall passion for life made naming the Undergraduate Colloquium in his memory a natural choice

9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. : Yates-Gill College Union, Rooms 210, 221, 222
10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.: Gano Assembly Room
1-1:40 p.m.: John Gano Memorial Chapel

Poster Presentations
Posters will be on view in the Yates-Gill College Atrium from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Poster presenters will be available to answer questions from 10-11 a.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m.
