Susan Chambers Named Executive Vice President for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
BENTONVILLE, Ark., PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT) has announced the promotion of Susan Chambers to executive vice president. Chambers previously served as senior vice president with responsibility for the areas of claims management, benefits, retirement and savings plans. In her new role, she will keep her current responsibilities and assume responsibility for global security, aviation & travel, food safety & security and risk control. Chambers, 46, also will join Wal-Mart's executive committee and continue to report to Tom Schoewe, chief financial officer for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
"Susan is an excellent leader who has helped drive improvement in several key areas of our business, including information systems and our benefits program," said Schoewe. "Susan will add depth and perspective to our senior management team. In addition, the new responsibilities will give her an opportunity to develop further as a senior leader and manager."
Chambers joined Wal-Mart in 1999. She initially trained as a store and club manager, and later moved into the information systems division as vice president of applications development for merchandising. She became senior vice president of benefits and insurance administration in January 2002.
Prior to joining Wal-Mart, Chambers was employed for 14 years with Hallmark Cards Incorporated. Chambers serves on the Kansas State University Business Advisory Board. She graduated from William Jewel College in Liberty, Missouri with a bachelor of science in systems and data processing.
